The Center for Health and Wellbeing (CHW), part of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, invites outstanding researchers with experience teaching epidemiology to apply for a Visiting Research Scholar or Visiting Fellow appointment. Appointment rank will be determined based on an individual’s qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach the spring semester undergraduate Global Health Program Epidemiology course, contingent upon sufficient enrollment and with the approval of the Office of the Dean of the Faculty. Accordingly, the appointee must be in residence at Princeton during the spring semester. Consideration may also be given to an appointment for the full academic year, depending on programmatic needs and mutual interest.
CHW supports research on the multiple aspects of health and wellbeing in both developed and developing countries. Applications are welcome from researchers in a variety of disciplines, including epidemiology, demography, evolutionary ecology, infectious disease, disease ecology, environmental health, biostatistics, public health, and related disciplines.
Visiting researchers enjoy access to a wide range of scholarly activities throughout the University. The successful candidate will devote most of their time at Princeton to research, discussions, and scholarly collaborations concerned with the determinants of physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, and the effects of public policy on health and wellbeing.
Researchers from academic institutions may be eligible to receive up to 25% of their academic-year salaries from their home institutions for the spring 2028 semester. The amount that Princeton contributes to the researcher’s salary is based on the financial support provided by their home institution and will normally not exceed $50,000, plus applicable benefits. The selected candidate will be asked to indicate, or provide written authorization for Princeton to confirm, what percentage of financial support their home institution and other sources are likely to provide during their visit, if any, and to submit a confidential statement indicating salary for the 2027-2028 academic year or provide written authorization for Princeton to confirm their salary.
Applicants must have a doctorate or equivalent degree. The program is open to all regardless of citizenship, but it does not support work toward the completion of a degree. Visiting research scholars and fellows must be employed at an institution other than Princeton during their visit and are expected to return to their primary appointment at the end of their visit.
Applicants must have experience teaching epidemiology.
Applicants are evaluated on the basis of (1) the quality of their achievements in their field of specialization and their ability to benefit from the activities of CHW; (2) the significance of their proposed contribution to CHW's mission; and (3) the contribution they are likely to make to research in the future.
