Job summary

Berea College seeks a Visiting Creative Technologist and Makerspace Manager to lead the Dr. Ann Evans Makerspace in the CMIT Building, supervising 3–4 student workers and coordinating with faculty on curricular enrichment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a computing, art/design, or engineering related discipline.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Computing, Art/Design, or Engineering discipline, or STEM pedagogy.
• Minimum of three years of directly related experience in makerspace management.
• Experience with desktop fabrication and CNC equipment, especially 3‑D printers.
• Developing digital fabrication workshops or maker education curriculum enrichment.
• Ability to work independently in proactive, service‑oriented roles.
• Collaborating on multi‑disciplinary “STEAM” projects.
• Supervising adults in a work setting.
• Familiar with classroom technologies and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Directly oversee and train makerspace users on safe tool use.
• Organize and maintain materials supply and digital inventory.
• Operate, debug, repair, and maintain desktop fabrication equipment.
• Coordinate with space users including student managers, staff and faculty.
• Maintain records of space, equipment, and material usage.
• Identify emerging issues and resolve them in a timely, respectful manner.
• Maintain student-centered hours for safe access and supervision.
• Identify opportunities for academic collaboration across campus.
• Train and mentor undergraduate student workers.
• Lead or collaborate on multidisciplinary creative technology projects.
