Position Summary
The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Indiana University Bloomington's Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese Language and Linguistics, to begin August 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be able to teach Japanese language and linguistic courses. Ability to teach Introduction to Japanese Linguistics or a Japanese-related content course in English is a plus.
Application materials should include the following: Curriculum Vitae, cover letter, a sample syllabus for Japanese language class (preferably first- or second-year level), a statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for three (3) references to provide letters of recommendation. Candidates may be invited to submit a link to a teaching video after initial screening.

Basic Qualifications
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Japanese linguistics, language pedagogy or a related field. ABD candidates may be considered but it is expected that a selected candidate will have a doctoral degree in hand by August 1, 2025. The candidate should have native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English with at least one year's experience teaching at the college level in the United States.
