Job description

The Department of Writing & Rhetoric at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position (renewable for a second year, contingent upon teaching performance) beginning fall semester 2025. The department seeks a teacher-scholar who can contribute to its liberal arts program in writing and rhetorical studies. Required qualifications: PhD, completed or near completion, in rhetoric, composition, communication studies, or related field, and experience teaching at the university level.

Applications from candidates who have taught multiple sections of rhetoric, composition, public speaking, or visual rhetoric are especially welcome. Completion of the Ph.D. is required prior to or shortly after the date of hire. Please note that Colgate will not sponsor any visa or work authorization for this position.

We are seeking a colleague committed to liberal arts education grounded in inclusive and equity-driven pedagogy. Teaching responsibilities for the year consist of five courses, including either introductory writing or public speaking. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to teach existing courses in the Writing and Rhetoric department and/or develop new courses in their area of specialization.

Salary Range or Pay Grade
$71,000 (for ABD candidates) to $75,000 (for candidates with a PhD in hand)
