University of Oregon invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the History of Art and Architecture for 2026-27. The successful candidate will teach seven courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.

We welcome applicants specializing in East Asian art, especially Chinese, Japanese, or Buddhist art. Ph.D. in Art/Architectural History required; ABD considered.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Art and/or Architectural History required prior to appointment; ABD may also be considered.
• Visiting faculty must hold a like or relevant position at another institution or have recently obtained a terminal degree.
• Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and facilitate student learning.
• Ability to work cooperatively with diverse faculty and student populations.
• Ability to conduct independent, high-quality scholarship or creative practice.

Responsibilities

• Teach seven classes at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Preference for courses on East Asia (Chinese/Japanese/Buddhist art).
• Teaching or research focus on transcultural exchange or museum practices welcomed.
• Applicants with related interests in design and urban history are encouraged to apply.
