Job Description

The Department of Natural Sciences and Environmental Health at Mississippi Valley State University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with applications in Environmental Health Systems. Successful candidates will teach graduate-level courses in AI and machine learning, emphasizing environmental data, environmental health, and environmental public health applications, and may teach undergraduate courses as needed.

The department seeks a committed educator and scholar who can support graduate instruction, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and research in AI, environmental science, environmental health, and public health systems.

Required Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Public Health, Computational Science, or a closely related discipline by the start date of appointment.
  • Expertise in AI/ML applications related to environmental data, environmental health, or environmental systems.
  • Demonstrated ability or strong potential to teach graduate courses in AI, machine learning, and environmental health applications.
  • Evidence of scholarly potential and the ability to engage students in research and applied learning experiences.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, mentoring, research, and service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching or developing courses in AI, machine learning, environmental data analysis, environmental health, Environmental Public Health, or related fields.
  • Ability to teach additional AI and machine learning courses in the graduate program.
  • Research experience involving AI/ML applications in environmental health, environmental monitoring, environmental risk assessment, public health data, or related systems.
  • Postdoctoral, industry, or applied research experience in AI, environmental health, or environmental applications.
  • Commitment to mentoring and supporting a diverse student population.
  • Experience involving graduate or undergraduate students in research or applied projects.
