Job summary

The City of Modesto is seeking a Planning Manager to lead the Planning Division within the Community and Economic Development Department. You will oversee urban growth reviews, zoning updates, and environmental assessment, coordinating with other divisions and city leadership.

Ideal candidates have five years of progressive planning experience and a relevant degree, with a strong emphasis on leadership, budget management, and collaboration with City Council and outside agencies.

Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in urban or regional planning.
• Bachelor's degree with major in urban/regional planning or related field required.
• Master's degree is desirable and beneficial.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a California driver’s license; AICP desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and direct Planning Division activities including urban growth review and environmental review.
• Develop and implement divisional goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
• Direct, oversee and participate in the Planning Division work plan and budget.
• Prepare the Planning Division budget and forecast funding needs for staffing and equipment.
• Represent the division to outside agencies and provide staff support to the Planning Commission and City Council.
