Job summary

Bread for the City in Washington, DC seeks a Director of Organizing and Systems Change to lead the Advocacy & Organizing Department, build out its scope, and supervise staff focused on system-wide advocacy. The role emphasizes anti-racism, client leadership, and coalition work with community partners.

The ideal candidate has deep local organizing experience, a track record in campaigns, and the ability to mentor client leaders while coordinating with CAC/COREE and Bread staff.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
  • Proven ability to build and manage large-scale campaigns.
  • Experience working with people living on low incomes preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible long hours, including weeknights and weekends.
  • Understanding of DC governance and politics.

Responsibilities

  • Systems Change: Build out the new shape of the Advocacy & Organizing Department.
  • Develop a map of the department's scope of work.
  • Set up systems and processes aligned with anti-racism and Bread's Strategic Plan.
  • Interact with leadership, staff, CAC, COREE, and partners to deepen advocacy and organizing efforts.
  • Guide COREE team in creating and executing campaigns around issues important to clients.

Education

5-7 years organizing/coalition building
Supervisory experience 3-5 years
Strong facilitation and leadership
