Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist to help blind or visually impaired individuals gain self-sufficiency. You will assess needs, plan instruction, and teach adaptive skills to promote independence and vocational opportunities.

The role involves collaboration with professionals, recording progress, and supporting community programs. Telework may be available after training; on-site work at the Pittsburgh District Office is expected.

Qualifications

• Completion of Commonwealth Vision Rehabilitation Therapist Intern program or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in rehabilitation teaching/education with practicum.
• ACVREP certification is acceptable or anticipated within 3 months of graduation.

Responsibilities

• Interview, evaluate, and observe customers to identify needs.
• Develop an individualized plan of instruction with goals and materials.
• Teach self-sufficiency skills for independent living and community engagement.
• Monitor progress and adjust objectives to maximize learning.
• Maintain case narratives and record data of plans and progress.
• Provide training to community program staff to promote positive attitudes.
