Job summary

State of Hawaiʻi, Department of Human Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Services for the Blind Branch, Adjustment Section, Honolulu, is seeking a Rehabilitation Instruction Specialist to assess needs and deliver personal care, home management, and communication training to consumers who are blind or visually impaired.

You will work as part of a professional team to help clients prepare for competitive employment and provide guidance to other branches and organizations serving

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
• General Experience: 1 year of professional work experience providing direct services to individuals with disabilities.
• Specialized Experience: Rehabilitation instruction to blind or visually impaired individuals in one or more subject areas.
• Substitutions: bachelor’s degree may substitute for General Experience.
• Master’s degree in teaching the blind may substitute for all General Experience and one year of Specialized Experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess consumer needs and provide individual instruction in personal care and home management.
• Deliver group instruction to blind, low vision, or deaf-blind individuals.
• Collaborate with a professional team to prepare for competitive integrated employment.
