Job summary

The State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Services for the Blind Branch, Counseling Section, located in Honolulu, seeks a Rehabilitation Teacher to guide elderly blind or visually impaired individuals toward greater independence.

Responsibilities include assessing needs, developing service plans, and managing a caseload while teaching personal care, home management, budgeting, and daily living skills. A bachelor’s degree is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; and solve complex problems logically.
• One year of progressively responsible professional work experience providing direct services to individuals with disabilities.
• Specialized experience in rehabilitation instruction to blind or visually impaired individuals.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and support elderly consumers who are blind or visually impaired to achieve personal adjustment and independence.
• Assess clients' abilities, develop individualized service plans, and manage caseloads.
• Provide instruction in topics such as personal care, home orientation and management, budgeting, and daily living skills.
