Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking a Vision Program Support staff member to assist with developing and distributing accessible instructional materials for students with visual impairments. The TWA - Vision Program Support is responsible for providing instructional, programmatic, and material support to the Vision Services Program. Assists with the development, adaptation, organization, and distribution of accessible instructional materials and specialized resources for students with visual impairments. May provide direct instructional support to students individually or in small groups, as assigned, to reinforce skills identified by the Vision Services team. Assists with maintaining instructional resources, specialized equipment, assistive technology, and program documentation while collaborating with Vision Services staff to ensure students have timely access to appropriate instructional materials and supports. Performs duties in accordance with Chesterfield County Public Schools policies and procedures.
This position has no budgetary responsibility.
Numerous reports are required (such as evaluations, progress reports, IEPs, etc.).
Operates personal computer, general office equipment, and specialized equipment pertaining to students with assistive technology needs
Contacts are made at all levels within and outside the school system and may require the handling of highly sensitive information with the general public and CCPS employees.
This position does not supervise or provide work direction to other positions.
Performs majority of essential job functions independently.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel objects, printed materials and/or controls; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Frequent travel to school sites throughout the division is required.
Work is performed in a public school setting. Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym; cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Occasional exposure to potentially infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens is necessary.
Demonstrated knowledge of accessible instructional materials and instructional supports for students with visual impairments. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects while meeting established timelines. Familiarity with braille production, tactile graphics, large print, accessible instructional materials, and assistive technology, or the ability to acquire these skills. Proficient in the use of technology and standard office software to develop instructional materials, maintain records, and support program operations. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation and exercise strong attention to detail. Excellent organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with Vision Services staff and other school personnel. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment when handling sensitive student and program information.
Bachelor’s Degree and Valid VA Teaching License with an endorsement in Visual impairments is preferred. Experience working with students with visual impairments, accessible instructional materials, special education, or instructional support services preferred. Experience with braille, large print production, or assistive technology is desirable. Valid Virginia driver's license required. Applicants considered for employment must successfully complete the following background investigations/tests:
$35.76 per hour
