Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking a Vision Program Support to provide instructional, programmatic, and material support for students with visual impairments. You will prepare accessible materials, assist with FVAs/LMAs, and help organize specialized equipment and resources.

You will collaborate with Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments and families to ensure timely access to instruction, while maintaining documentation and supporting professional learning activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and VA Teaching License with an endorsement in Visual impairments preferred.
• Experience with braille, large print production, or assistive technology desirable.
• Knowledge of accessible instructional materials and supports for students with visual impairments.

Responsibilities

• Assists with functional vision assessments (FVAs) and learning media assessments (LMAs) as assigned.
• Provides direct instructional support to students with visual impairments in small groups or individually.
• Develops and prepares accessible instructional materials (large print, braille-ready documents, tactile graphics).
• Supports implementation and maintenance of assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
• Collaborates with Vision Services staff and families to ensure access to instruction.

Assists with the development, adaptation, organization, and distribution of accessible instructional materials and specialized resources for students with visual impairments. May provide direct instructional support to students individually or in small groups, as assigned, to reinforce skills identified by the Vision Services team. Assists with maintaining instructional resources, specialized equipment, assistive technology, and program documentation while collaborating with Vision Services staff to ensure students have timely access to appropriate instructional materials and supports. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. Frequent travel to school sites throughout the division is required.Work Environment:Work is performed in a public school setting. Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym; cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Occasional exposure to potentially infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens is necessary.'Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Demonstrated knowledge of accessible instructional materials and instructional supports for students with visual impairments. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects while meeting established timelines. Familiarity with braille production, tactile graphics, large print, accessible instructional materials, and assistive technology, or the ability to acquire these skills. Proficient in the use of technology and standard office software to develop instructional materials, maintain records, and support program operations. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation and exercise strong attention to detail. Excellent organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with Vision Services staff and other school personnel. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment when handling sensitive student and program information.Additional Job Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree and Valid VA Teaching License with an endorsement in Visual impairments is preferred. Experience working with students with visual impairments, accessible instructional materials, special education, or instructional support services preferred. Experience with braille, large print production, or assistive technology is desirable.
