Job summary

Responsibilities include designing system architectures, managing desktop pools, enforcing access policies, patching, and STIG/TCNO compliance, with strong emphasis on VMware, Horizon, Citrix, and related technologies in a DoD context. This is an on-site position in San Antonio, TX.

Qualifications

  • Clearance Required: TS/SCI
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience with VMware virtualization components (vSphere, vSAN for Horizon, Horizon, Workspace ONE, ThinApp, App Volumes)
  • IAT Level II certification
  • Proven experience with VMware, Horizon, Citrix, Azure, or other virtual stacks
  • Knowledge of Windows 10/11 and RHEL image management
  • Strong VDI deployment, configuration, and management skills
  • Understanding of AD, PCoIP, BLAST, DNS, NTP, TCP/IP, ICMP, DFS, WSUS, VLANs, Routing
  • Experience with patch management and TCNO compliance
  • Familiarity with STIG compliance and security controls
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex virtualized environments
  • Strong communication and end-user training skills
  • User access policy management experience

Overview

GovCIO is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Desktop Virtualization Administrator to manage and support the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in support of 616 Operations Center (OC) and 616 Air and Space Communications Squadron (ACOMS) operations. The ideal candidate will have experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining virtual desktop solutions, its supporting infrastructure, as well as ensuring compliance with security guidelines and providing user support.

Responsibilities

Designs and develops network and system architectures, and defines key capabilities and performance requirements. Defines total systems design and technology maturity constraints in accordance with mission requirements. Develops network and system element architecture and design and interface definitions. Defines network and system implementation approach and operational concept. Develops models and architectural guidelines for current and future network and system development. Ensures requirements are met and evaluates performance with customer.

  • Interfaces with the user(s) and all other stakeholders in order to determine their needs.

  • Generates the highest level of requirements, based on the user's needs and other constraints such as cost and schedule.

  • Performs cost-benefit analyses to determine whether requirements are best met by manual, software, or hardware functions; making maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf or already developed components.

  • Designs and develops solutions to applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns.

  • Develops partitioning algorithms (and other processes) to allocate all present and foreseeable requirements into discrete partitions such that a minimum of communications is needed among partitions, and between the user and the system.

Client Specific Responsibilities

  • Deploys and configures virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments, including Horizon, Citrix, Azure, AWS and similar VDI platforms.

  • Creates, manages, and maintains desktop pools, user profiles, and configurations to ensure optimal performance and availability.

  • Implements and manages user access policies, ensuring appropriate permissions and security protocols are in place.

  • Ensures compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and Technical Compliance Notification Order (TCNO) requirements.

  • Performs regular patch management and updates for all desktop virtualization systems.

  • Provides end-user support and training related to the VDI environment and ensure smooth operations.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to VDI systems, ensuring minimal downtime.

  • Monitors and optimizes the performance of virtual desktop environments, ensuring a seamless user experience.

  • Collaborates with security and network teams to ensure the security and integrity of the VDI environment.

  • Maintains documentation of the VDI environment, including system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.

High School with 10+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Clearance Required: TS/SCI

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience designing, installing, configuring and managing VMware virtualization environment components (vSphere, vSAN for Horizon, Horizon, Workspace ONE, ThinApp, App Volumes)

  • IAT Level II certification

  • Proven experience with VMware, Horizon, Citrix, Azure, or other virtual technology stacks.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows 10 / 11 and RHEL desktop master image management.

  • Strong understanding of VDI deployment, configuration, and management best practices.

  • Thorough understanding of Active Directory, PCoIP, BLAST, DNS, NTP, TCP/IP, ICMP, DFS, WSUS, VLANs and Routing.

  • Strong background in desktop Application virtualization.

  • Experience with patch management and TCNO compliance.

  • Familiarity with STIG compliance requirements and the ability to implement security controls.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a virtualized environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide training and support to end users.

  • Experience with user access policy management and security protocols.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field or a related area with 15+ years (or commensurate experience) strongly preferred.

  • Experience working within DoD network environments.

  • PowerShell, Python, Bash or other scripting languages.

  • Backup / restore operations in virtualized environments.

  • SAN, network, server administration.

  • Elastic stack working knowledge.

  • Performance monitoring, tuning utilities and commands.

  • Container orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Working knowledge of SQL and database implementations.

  • Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Expert level (or MCSE) certifications.

  • VCP - VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization certification.

  • VCP - VMware Certified Professional - Desktop and Mobility certification.

  • Cisco Professional certification - CCNP +.

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator - RHCSA.
