Job summary

Virginia Connections Academy is seeking a Manager of Counseling Services to work from home in Virginia with occasional office visits. You will partner with the leadership team to guide students, support graduation planning, course selection, and postsecondary planning, and provide crisis intervention.

Responsibilities include directing staff, coordinating state testing, enrolling students, developing counseling programs, maintaining PLPs, and ensuring accurate transcripts while engaging families

Qualifications

• Virginia Professional Teacher Certificate in Guidance and Counseling required.
• Minimum 5 years teaching experience with counseling or management preferred.
• Advanced degree preferred.
• Technologically proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Customer-focused and flexible; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Team player with ability to attend in-person events as needed.
• Ability to work remotely if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Ensure academic success by engaging parents and providing student support.
• Support teachers with professionalism, instructional support, and customer service.
• Act as site leader in the office when required.
• Manage the State Testing Coordinator, counselors, and others.
• Assist with state testing in all capacities.
• Assist with enrolling students based on performance and eligibility.
• Lead the Leadership and State Testing Teams.
• Communicate with staff, students, and families effectively.
• Assist families needing extra support to prevent withdrawals.
• Participate in student recruitment and outreach activities.
• Develop and implement counseling programs for academics and career planning.
• Work on Personal Learning Plan (PLP) for each student.
• Keep up-to-date with high school graduation requirements.
• Plan course selection with state credits and graduation requirements.
• Help students develop a Four Year Plan.
• Counsel students on drop/add and scheduling changes.
• Develop dual enrollment articulation with postsecondary institutions.
• Oversee transcript reviews and entry into online transcript system.
• Ensure transcripts are accurate and up-to-date.
• Secure complete records for students.
• Generate and authorize official transcripts on request.
• Counsel families through the withdrawal process.
• Refer critical incidents per law and regulations.
• Lead teams to identify community resources.
• Develop and implement processes to review student status regularly.
• Assist with annual graduation ceremonies.
