Job summary

Qualifications

Position Description

Looking for VDC in and around any of our office locations in Davidson, NC, Walterboro, SC or Eagleville, TN.

POSITION SUMMARY

This job description identifies and describes the “core work tasks” for the WB Virtual Construction Engineer position. It is designed to specify the major work responsibilities and duties performed by individuals in this position and align to related duties for the WB Field Engineering Manager position to which it reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
General Tasks
  • Assist the WBC Virtual Construction Manager with performing a variety of layout and surveying activities such as:
  • Measuring correct distances per drawings,
  • Marking and labeling survey points
  • Making field notes and sketches for each field line and grade shot taken,
  • Preparing drawings, isometrics, etc., and
  • Checking related calculations.
  • Adhere to all company and OSHA safety rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Work as an effective member of a building group/team.
  • Schedule and report all maintenance for equipment (truck, total station, etc.)
  • Recommend potential equipment purchases to Virtual Construction Manager for meeting target growth plans. Survey Crew
  • Maintain proper usage and storage of all surveying equipment
  • Perform all assigned roles, responsibilities, and related work processes/tasks in the safest possible manner. Ensure that a safe, accident/incident-free work environment is maintained for all co-workers, customers, clients, suppliers, etc. at all times.
Pre-Construction Phase
  • Read and understand blueprints (i.e., architectural, formwork, structural, civil and MEP) and related specifications to transfer layout specifications to Auto Cad and to check varying dimensions.
  • Check plans and verify CAD versus written dimensions. Note all discrepancies to determine need for any RFIs and report findings to Virtual Construction Manager.
  • Review, if necessary and appropriate, alter project drawings for WB field crews (e.g., metal building, embed drawings, pier and pilaster details, base plate details, anchor bolt details, form layout plans/details, etc.) Create field-use drawings for formwork planning.
  • Establish locations for anchor bolts and other concrete embed materials in foundations, columns and walls.
  • Enter layout data for basic and advanced layout functions to achieve horizontal and vertical control from established monument(s) for footings, concrete slabs and multi-story buildings using “radial stake-out” technology. Enter dimensions into Survey Pro software Tekla Structures and/or Civil 3d
Construction Phase
  • Periodically check calibration (i.e., PPM settings and collimation) for total station and all other layout equipment (i.e., site level, rod) to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Transfer “control” elevations throughout job site as necessary. Record “level loops” in project field-book. (Note: Minimum of two control elevations to be established for field reference throughout project duration. Use of 4’ above finished floor mark or cast #6 rebar or larger)
  • Double-check horizontal and vertical control on‑site using a minimum of three established control points.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of footing, column, pier, anchor bolt, etc. control points with field staff on‑site and determine suitability.
  • Layout footings, column lines (using batter‑boards when feasible), re‑bar placement, wall lines, embeds, anchor bolts, etc. on site and store data points for layout accountability. Provide verification of layout points as necessary.
  • Make daily reports to Virtual Construction Manager and/or WBC superintendent(s) as appropriate regarding project activities within the scope of these assigned duties and responsibilities.
Post Construction Phase
  • Assist Virtual Construction Manager with preparing data for “as‑built drawings” during the construction phase to establish proper location of completed structures prior to back‑filling operations. Record locations of anchor bolts, columns and walls and load data into Auto Cad software.

  • High School Diploma/GED - required
  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering - Preferred
  • Vocational or technical training in construction – desirable
