Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Research Technician to support the Randall Laboratory's investigations into virus-host interactions. The role involves daily lab work (cell culture, cloning, PCR, extraction, gel), animal colony management, data collection, and inventory oversight in a collaborative lab setting.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s in Biological or Chemical Science, familiarity with basic microbiology techniques, and experience with animal handling.

Qualifications

• Experience with basic microbiology laboratory techniques including aseptic, microbial culturing and inoculation.
• Experience working with animals.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Biological or Chemical Science preferred.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily laboratory experiments including cell culture, molecular cloning, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and gel electrophoresis for viral and molecular studies.
• Manage small rodent colonies, including breeding, genotyping and husbandry.
• Collect, analyze and maintain research data and biological specimens; develop data collection instruments.
• Order lab supplies, manage inventory and maintain equipment; ensure compliance with safety policies.
• Support training of incoming students and personnel; assist with reports, manuscripts and presentations.
