The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a Biological Scientist I for the Virology Section in Kissimmee. The incumbent will perform diverse virology tests, maintain cell lines, and ensure accurate record-keeping with QA/QC practices.

Responsibilities include conducting virus neutralization, fluorescent antibody tests, ELISA, RT-qPCR, and coordinating test results via LIMS. Cross-training and SOP development are also part of the role.

Qualifikationen

• A bachelor's degree in biological, physical, natural, or agricultural sciences is required.
• Foreign-degree verification may be required for some applicants as noted by the agency.
• Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.

Aufgaben

• Perform analytical testing in the Virology Section, including virus neutralization tests, direct and indirect fluorescent antibody tests, ELISA, and RT-qPCR.
• Maintain cell lines used in virus isolation and virology tests; process clinical and necropsy samples.
• Prepare and maintain laboratory worksheets and detailed records; coordinate test results via LIMS.
• Prepare reagents, stains, and solutions; maintain stock viruses and cell cultures; perform QA/QC on equipment and materials.
• Assist in development and revision of SOPs; maintain Levey-Jennings charts and QA/QC documents in Q-Pulse.
• Cross-train in other sections and evaluate new procedures; train new personnel.
