Job summary

The Tennessee Department of Health – Division of Laboratory Services seeks a Laboratory Manager to oversee the Virology section, directing testing of high-priority pathogens and ensuring quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. You will lead staff, coordinate budgets, and collaborate with public health partners.

This role requires a strong background in laboratory management, CLIA/regulatory knowledge, and hands-on supervision of scientists. Location: Nashville, TN; full-time employment.

Qualifications

• Education and experience as required for PH Lab Manager 3 and related supervisor roles.
• Multiple pathways may substitute education for experience per CLIA/CMS guidelines.
• A transcript with all credits is required; licensure/ supervising license eligibility may be needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical, operational, and administrative oversight of the Virology Section.
• Develop and monitor quality indicators to meet agency and regulatory standards.
• Define and ensure QMS compliance and accreditation readiness across testing activities.
• Assist with budget, contracts, procurement, and strategic planning to secure funding.
