The Public Health Aerobiology Laboratory (PHAB Lab) at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks a Virology Laboratory Technician for a temporary hourly position ($30-38/h). Evening and weekend shifts are required; the appointment runs Oct/Nov 2026 through Mar 2027, with pay based on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with relevant lab training.
• Experience with nucleic acid workflows and high‑complexity labs.
• Proficient with RT‑qPCR, digital PCR, ELISA and related assays.
• Accurate pipetting and meticulous record keeping.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as study needs arise.
• Strong communication and teamwork in a research setting.

Responsibilities

• Process clinical specimens for research under BSL-2 conditions.
• Perform high‑complexity molecular and virological assays (RT‑qPCR, dPCR, ELISA).
• Maintain accurate lab records and follow SOPs precisely.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment; troubleshoot basics.
• Collaborate with study teams and adapt to workflow changes.
