Job summary

GAP Solutions is seeking a Viral Repository Manager to support IRF-Frederick operations for NIAID. The role oversees inventories of select agent samples in BSL-4 facilities and helps expand and maintain virus stocks for research.

• Perform inactivation testing of new virus stocks and stock irradiation as requested.
• Provide support and back-up to the Biological Inventory Manager.
• Support mission priorities in a laboratory setting to complete research studies.

Job description

Position Objective:

The Viral Repository Manager will provide services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the IRF-Frederick within National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for oversight of electronic and physical inventories of long-term select agent samples, to include inventories maintained in BSL-4 and inclusive of BSAT.
• Expand and maintain virus stocks to support research activities at IRF-Frederick
• Perform inactivation testing of new virus stocks
• Perform stock or sample irradiation as requested
• Provide support and back-up to the Biological Inventory Manager
• Additional duties include supporting mission priorities in laboratory setting to complete research studies.

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum of a full 4-year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a B.S. or higher degree that includes specialized training and research in virology, molecular biology, serology, and/or immunology
• Specific experience working with Select Agent viruses
• Previous recent BSL-4 experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience with inventory management systems preferred.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Analytic, organizational, and time management skills.
