Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of the Shipping employees by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing programs, standards, and procedures.
  • Coordinate unloading/loading of product, orderly stacking, and picking and staging of outbound shipments with quality control.
  • Safeguard shipping operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures.
  • Control inventory levels by conducting physical counts and reconciling with data storage system.
  • Maintain shipping staff performance through coaching, counseling, and performance appraisals.
  • Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and undamaged; communicate across shifts.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area while following security policies.
  • Ensure safety policies and food safety practices are followed; conduct shift meetings as needed.
  • Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for workload fluctuations.
  • Prepare, approve, and maintain records and reports such as time, wages, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with workers and managers to resolve work-related problems.
  • Identify training needs and arrange appropriate instruction.

Shipping Supervisor Job Duties:
  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of the Shipping employees by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing programs, operational standards, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate the most efficient unloading & loading of product, orderly stacking of product, and the picking and staging of outbound shipments in accordance with the highest possible levels of quality
  • Safeguards shipping operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system.
  • Maintains shipping staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage
  • Responsible for communication between shifts and departments to ensure accurate inventory
  • Maintain a clean; neat, and orderly work area; ensure all security policies and procedures are followed
  • Ensure Associates follow all safety policies and procedures including food safety practices
  • Conduct shift meetings as needed to communicate expectations and opportunities of improvement
  • Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads
  • Prepare, approve and maintain work records and reports of information such as employee time and wages, production reports, inventory reports
  • Collaborate with workers and managers to solve work-related problems
  • Assess training needs of staff and arrange for or provide appropriate instruction
  • Resolve personnel problems, complaints, or formal grievances when possible, or refer them to higher-level managers for resolution
  • Other duties as requested. Will help support Production.
Qualifications
  • HS Diploma, Associates Degree Preferred
  • 3+ years supervisory or warehouse experience; or bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with electronic shipping/inventory systems
  • Maintain forklift certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to perform the same work duties as those supervised or performs more difficult or skilled tasks or assist in their performance
  • Ability to supervise employees
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment with close detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with variety of individuals
  • Must be able to relate to others beyond giving and receiving instructions: they must get along with co-workers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a manager
  • Receptive to management development suggestions and willing to seek additional knowledge to facilitate job growth
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience working in a union environment a plus
  • Tools and Technology Required: Microsoft Office Suite, Calculators, Desktop computers and Photocopiers
