Job summary

Ellwood Quality Steels, a startup-like facility in the steel industry, seeks a VIM Setup Operator to support raw material handling and furnace operations. You will follow procedures, set up the VIM furnace, assist in charging, sampling and maintaining equipment, while supporting quality control and safety standards.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and preferred experience in steel manufacturing, with training provided after hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
• Six months experience in steel manufacturing preferred.
• Remote crane operation experience preferred.
• Remelt department experience preferred.
• Internal EQS training provided after hire.

Responsibilities

• Follow strict safety protocols for molten metal and high-temperature equipment.
• Set up and prepare the Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) furnace and related tasks.
• Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of the VIM furnace and components.
• Assist in VIM furnace operation, including charging and sampling as directed.
• Support quality control via sample collection and inspections.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment to ensure safe operations.
• Operate cranes, hoists, launder, and forklifts for material transport.
• Complete Pre-Operational Inspections on equipment daily as needed.
• Work independently in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
• Adhere to all company policies and plant safety rules.
• Collaborate with others and meet attendance requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
