Job summary

WHIO TV Dayton is seeking a creative Videographer/Editor to capture local news with strong composition and storytelling. You will shoot, edit, and deliver compelling stories under tight deadlines, working closely with reporters to craft visually engaging broadcasts.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with ENG gear, LiveU, drones, and non-linear editing (preferably Avid). A valid driver’s license and ability to work varied shifts are required.

Qualifications

• 2 years of videography and/or related education required.
• 2 years of non-linear editing experience (preferably Avid).
• Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Ability to generate live shots and high-production value packages.
• Proficient with newsroom tech and non-linear editing systems.

Responsibilities

• Shoot and edit local news stories that are clear and easy to understand.
• Work under pressure in the field to meet deadlines.
• Operate and maintain professional video camera and news gathering gear.
• Collaborate with reporters to create creative visual stories and teases.
• Gather VO, VO-SOT and NAT sound packages independently.
• Maintain equipment and drive/operate news vehicles as needed.
• Be available for all shifts, including mornings, nights, weekends, holidays.
• Fill in as Show Editor when required.

Position Overview

WHIO TV Dayton is looking for a Videographer/Editor who is creative with an eye for composition and an ear for sound. If you like a challenge and haveexperience behind the camera, we want to hear from you!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Shoot and edit compelling local news stories that are clear and easy to understand.
• Able to work under pressure and make quick decisions in the field.
• Operate and maintain a professional video camera and related news gathering equipment. This includes laptop, iPhone, LiveU and drones.
• Be familiar with and understand non-linear editing techniques to meet deadlines and create high-impact stories.
• Understanding the best way to troubleshoot equipment issues (camera, laptop or ENG equipment) as well understanding of technical aspects of the job.
• Collaborate with reporters to turn creative and visual stories, active live shot / teases and make sure daily deadlines are met in high pressure situations.
• A self-starter, with the ability to gather VO, VO-SOT and NAT sound packages by yourself.
• Able to work in all weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
• Maintain news vehicles for safe operation, keeping up with scheduled maintenance and having a valid driver's license.
• Ability to work all shifts scheduled, including mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Must adhere to all station policies.
• Bring story ideas and creative energy to the job every day.
• Fill in as Show Editor on an as needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2 years of experience working as a videographer and/or direct education
• 2 years of non-linear editing experience, preferably Avid editing software
• Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Ability to generate live shots and packages with high production values is a must
• Must have all requisite skills with technology, non-linear editing solutions and state-of-the-art newsroom production and rundown system
• Ideal candidate will be resourceful, self-reliant, and self-motivated

Preferred Qualifications

• A college degree in Journalism or TV Broadcasting
• Having a Part107 remote pilot drone license is a plus
• Experience and demonstrated ability with original graphics
