Job summary

Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus is seeking an entry-level Video Monitor Technician to observe patients requiring safety oversight. You will monitor multiple iPads, provide verbal reassurance to patients and families, and collaborate with the clinical team to redirect at-risk behavior, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Responsibilities include documenting in Epic, reporting risk incidents, and troubleshooting equipment to maintain accurate monitoring.

Qualifications

• Preferred High School Diploma/GED.
• 1 year Healthcare or related experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Monitor up to eight iPads remotely, observing one patient per screen.
• Intervene to prevent behaviors that could injure the patient.
• Provide verbal support to patients and families and coordinate with nursing staff for safety.
• Document pertinent information in Epic as required.
• Record observations and provide direction based on patient behavior.
• Report patient risk incidents and family concerns to staff and resolve issues with the team.
• Notify RN of patient status to ensure timely care and maintain a safe environment.
• Troubleshoot equipment and monitoring procedures to ensure accuracy.
• Communicate patient data to RN for appropriate care.
• Monitor at bedside when necessary and advise staff to ensure safety.

The Video Monitor Technician provides continuous observation of patients requiring additional safety support. This position reports/documents observations and redirection and engages the clinical team when the patients display at risk behavior that is not responsive to verbal redirection. This role also provides verbal support and reassurance to patients and their families. The Video Monitor Technician also troubleshoots problems with equipment to ensure accurate and efficient monitoring of patients.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

• Hours: 7am-7:30pm with every third weekend rotation and a holiday rotation.


• This is an entry level position, placed in a remote room with up to eight iPads monitoring one patient on each iPad that need to be watched due to confusion, possible falls and/or redirected to not pull lines. There are no reports, projects or case reviews.


• Patient Intervention Observes patient and intervenes as needed to prevent behaviors that may result in injury to the patient.


• Patient Communication Provides verbal support and reassurance to patients and their families by communicating with nursing staff to promote patient safety


• Job Duty Paperwork Documents within Epic any pertinent information related to job duties as required.


• Patient Services Records/reports observations and activities, provides verbal direction and redirection based on patient behavior


• Patient Information Communication Communicates and reports patient data and information to the RN to ensure appropriate and timely care is provided to the patient.


• Patient Monitoring Continuously observes the patient and notifies nursing staff of the need for patient assistance to maintain a safe environment for the patient.


• Troubleshoots problems with equipment and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient monitoring of patients.


• Reports Ensures staff promptly report any patient risk incidents and grievances from families regarding service quality, acting as a liaison to resolve these concerns effectively.


• Patient Monitoring, when necessary, monitors the patient at bedside and notifies nursing staff of the need to leave the patient’s bedside, to maintain a safe environment for the patient.
