Job summary

Essex District Attorney’s Office seeks a Victim Witness Advocate to provide information, support and services to victims, witnesses and their families throughout the criminal justice process.

The Advocate works under the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Victim Witness Services Division, handling intake, crisis intervention, referrals, and education for agencies and the community. This is a full-time state position with benefits in Massachusetts.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organization.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Provide information and support to victims, witnesses and families throughout the criminal justice process.
• Provide crisis intervention to victims and their families.
• Assess and evaluate victim needs and provide referrals and follow-up.
• Provide court orientation and explain procedures and roles.
• Screen criminal cases for victims and complete intake forms.
• Document and maintain case activity for files; collect statistics.
• Consult with ADAs and promote relationships with service providers.
• Provide education and training to agencies and communities about victim rights and services.
• Distribute victim rights materials and literature.
