Job summary

The Victim Assistance Coordinator at Tarrant County delivers support to crime victims by providing notification and information about the criminal justice process, and by referring to social services. They are the first contact for victims and stay in contact throughout the case.

The role includes translating services, data documentation, coordination with prosecutors and investigators, and crisis counseling as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
• Degree in social work, criminal justice, sociology or related field preferred.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Two years’ experience working with victims in social services or related field.
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system processes.
• Strong empathy and communication with victims and families.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team; high-stress environment toleration.
• Bilingual in Spanish/English or Vietnamese/English preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the first contact for victims; maintains contact throughout the case.
• Provides emotional support and guidance, responding to feelings appropriately.
• Advocates for victims to obtain information and benefits; assists with statements and applications.
• May provide translation services to non-English speaking victims and witnesses.
• Documents contacts and coordinates with prosecutors and investigators.
• Provides follow up on special referrals and community services.
• Records data and reports to the Director as required.
• Accompanies victims to court, orientations, and meetings; participates in community meetings.
• Networks with service providers and trains interns/volunteers as needed.
• Provides crisis counseling and safety planning; may conduct home visits when necessary.
