The City of Las Cruces seeks a dedicated Crime Victim Advocate to provide information, education, and assistance to crime victims. The role involves case reviews, crisis intervention, and liaison work with law enforcement and prosecutors to relay case status and available resources.

The position emphasizes responding to victims’ needs through the judicial process, offering direct services such as transportation and referrals to community agencies, and maintaining accurate case records.

Formación

• College credit hours equivalent to an Associate’s degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or a related field.
• Two years of experience in social work, counseling, or crisis intervention.
• Must pass applicable background checks.
• A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied as per City of Las Cruces policy.
• Criminal justice degree and crisis intervention experience preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Reviews law enforcement crime reports, victim files, and communicates with victims to provide guidance and assistance.
• Provides crisis intervention, counseling services, and information regarding the legal process to assist victims.
• Researches information to address victim questions and follows cases through judicial process.
• Performs as a court advocate, offers transportation and other services, and follows up with client progress.
• Prepares and presents reports, maintains records, and ensures documentation meets standards and timelines.
• Interacts with community organizations to explain Victim Assistance Unit objectives and processes.
