Job summary

City of Hampton seeks a compassionate Victim Services Specialist to support the Victim Witness Director. The role delivers essential services to individuals impacted by crime, ensuring they are informed, supported, and empowered through the criminal justice process.

*This position is contingent upon grant funding.* The department emphasizes confidentiality, crisis intervention, and coordinated referrals within a responsive city system.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology or related field; Bachelor's preferred.
• Minimum of one year of direct human services experience.
• Must obtain National Advocate Credentialing Program certification within 12 months.
• Knowledge of local/state criminal justice system; case management and crisis intervention techniques.
• Ability to assist clients and make referrals after assessment; proficient in Microsoft Office and policy explanations.
• Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
• Combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of specific requirements.
• Virginia History Background Check required.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention services and referrals for victims and witnesses of crime.
• Prepare adults and youths for trial participation, including court accompaniment when needed.
• Inform victims/witnesses about case developments and steps in the process.
• Distribute materials and assist with forms, including Victim Loss and Impact Statements.
• Maintain case records and enter data into CIMS for DCJS reporting.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
