Job summary

The City and County of San Francisco is seeking a Claims Specialist for the Victim Compensation Unit. You will guide crime victims through the CalVCB process, verify losses, and assess reimbursements to support timely claim decisions.

Ideal candidates have experience in social services or insurance verification, strong communication, and the ability to work with diverse communities in crisis situations. Bilingual skills are highly desirable.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year in social services, case management, or insurance.
• Strong written and verbal communication with customer service focus.
• Ability to work with the public, including individuals in crisis.
• Maintain confidentiality per applicable laws and regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field.

Responsibilities

• Verify and evaluate information to determine eligibility for program benefits.
• Verify and evaluate crime-related losses and reimbursements.
• Analyze inquiries from victims and service providers about eligibility.
• Work with diverse clients, including individuals in crisis.
• Explain processes to applicants for accurate status information.
• Learn and apply California policy revisions governing claims verification.
• Collaborate with advocacy team on pending cases and claims.
• Maintain clear notes documenting contacts and work performed.
• Keep supervisor informed of activities and issues.
• Work with community stakeholders.
