Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Vice President-Quality to lead the strategic direction for quality of care, patient safety, and performance improvement. This executive role partners with senior clinical and administrative leaders to implement an institution-wide care transformation program with transparency and collaboration.

The position requires a Master’s in healthcare administration and at least 10 years in healthcare quality leadership, including knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, and accreditation

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree required in Health care administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct healthcare management and quality improvement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee improvements in quality of care and reduction of patient harm.
  • Lead strategic direction for reducing preventable harm and achieving outcomes.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance and accreditation standards (CMS, Joint Commission).
  • Drive a comprehensive quality/performance improvement program across care delivery.

The Vice President-Quality is the lead executive overseeing improvements in quality of care, reduction of harm to patients and adherence to regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

This position provides the strategic direction for reducing preventable harm, attaining unsurpassed clinical and patient-reported outcomes, and building facility- and community-wide participation through transparency, collaboration, and mutual learning. Working in partnership with senior administrative and medical staff leadership, the position will oversee the institutional approach to care transformation and lead a comprehensive quality/performance improvement program, including but not limited to Clinical Improvement, Patient Safety, Regulatory and Accreditation, Infection Prevention and Patient Relations.

Skills and capabilities of the person in this role include:
  • Skillfully leads change, both operational and cultural, in complex political environments
  • Distinctive problem-solver who can disaggregate complex problems, determine root causes to the problems' manifestations, define and execute targeted analyses to prove or disprove hypotheses, and then synthesize a compelling story for change
  • Collaborator with high emotional intelligence, who works with multiple partners, bringing consensus and unified action to bear in the market for Mercy's patients
  • Effective communicator who listens and speaks with the ability to readily engender confidence and trust and can influence others in a matrix relationship
  • Effective presentation skills and leadership stature to chair meetings and conduct open-forum discussions
  • Depersonalized leadership style enabling team collaboration and collective credit
Qualifications
Position Details:
Required Education/Skills/Experience

Master's Degree required in Health care administration or related field. Minimum of 10 years of direct healthcare management and quality improvement experience.

Desired Skills And Knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical quality, safety, regulatory, performance improvement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement principles and practices (i.e., Six Sigma, Lean, A3, PDCA)
  • Detailed knowledge in areas of quality and patient safety, measurement and data analysis, quality and patient safety related public reporting requirements, process improvement, healthcare processes, facilitation, coaching and team building
  • Knowledge of statistics, data collection, analysis, and data presentation;
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations and accreditation standards, including CMS, Joint Commission, other
  • Ability to prioritize quality improvement strategies and choose how best to narrow quality gaps for clinical programs and outcomes and proven ability to achieve results
  • Systematic thinking with demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives
