As we continue to expand our U.S. Specialty platform, we are building a high-performing actuarial organization focused on delivering analytical excellence, pricing sophistication, and strategic decision support.

What You’ll Do

The VP, Pricing Actuary is responsible for leading actuarial pricing strategy, pricing model development, model governance, product profitability management, and portfolio optimization across multiple U.S. specialty product segments. This senior leadership role plays a critical part in shaping underwriting and business strategy by providing actuarial insights that drive profitable growth, pricing adequacy, product innovation, and long-term portfolio performance.

As a senior actuarial leader, you will oversee pricing methodologies, actuarial models, product performance analytics, and portfolio management strategies across multiple specialty insurance lines and underwriting segments in the U.S. You will work closely with Underwriting, Product Management, Claims, Finance, Risk Management, Distribution, Executive Leadership, and actuarial/product colleagues in the UK to ensure actuarial recommendations support Aviva’s strategic objectives, risk appetite, and global standards.

This role combines deep technical actuarial expertise, FCAS-level judgment, and executive leadership responsibilities, requiring the ability to influence enterprise decision-making, lead high-performing actuarial teams, partner with underwriting leadership across multiple product segments, and balance growth opportunities with disciplined risk management and profitability objectives.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the Chief Actuary and senior business leaders, helping shape the future direction of Aviva’s U.S. specialty insurance business while advancing actuarial innovation, pricing sophistication, operational excellence, and organizational capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute enterprise pricing strategies across multiple Aviva U.S. Specialty product segments and underwriting portfolios.
  • Establish actuarial pricing methodologies, assumptions, pricing models, model refresh processes, and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure pricing adequacy and alignment with profitability objectives.
  • Lead the development of rate indications, technical pricing views, segmentation analyses, and pricing recommendations for multiple specialty lines.
  • Partner with Underwriting and Product teams to translate pricing insights into underwriting actions, product innovation, and market competitiveness.
  • Evaluate market conditions, competitive dynamics, and emerging trends that influence pricing strategy.
  • Support new product development, product enhancements, and U.S. market expansion initiatives in coordination with UK actuarial and product stakeholders.
Portfolio Management and Profitability
  • Maintain accountability for actuarial support of portfolio profitability, segment‑level performance management, and portfolio steering actions.
  • Monitor portfolio trends, loss ratios, exposure mix, growth metrics, retention performance, and rate adequacy by product segment and distribution channel.
  • Develop strategic recommendations that improve portfolio outcomes and business performance.
  • Support enterprise planning, forecasting, and portfolio optimization activities.
  • Evaluate business mix, concentration risk, underwriting appetite, model indications, and growth opportunities across multiple product segments.
  • Ensure actuarial recommendations align with Aviva’s strategic objectives and risk appetite.
Senior Leadership and Talent Development
  • Lead and develop actuarial leaders, managers, and technical professionals; provide matrix leadership to colleagues supporting shared U.S. and UK priorities.
  • Establish organizational priorities and performance expectations for assigned product(s).
  • Drive workforce planning, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Support actuarial credential attainment and professional development.
  • Build organizational capability and leadership readiness within the actuarial function.
Advanced Analytics and Innovation
  • Oversee and contribute to predictive analytics, advanced pricing models, model validation, monitoring, and actuarial modernization initiatives.
  • Support implementation of advanced analytical tools and technologies.
  • Promote data‑driven decision‑making across the organization.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and analytical methodologies.
  • Drive automation and efficiency improvements across actuarial processes.
  • Enhance analytical capabilities that support underwriting execution, pricing discipline, portfolio management, and business performance.
