Position Overview
The Vice President of Orlando provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Stevens Construction's Orlando operations. This position is responsible for driving sustainable growth, strengthening client and community relationships, overseeing project execution and financial performance, and developing a high-performing team. The Vice President works closely with executive leadership, preconstruction, operations, and business development teams to identify opportunities, secure new work, manage organizational risk, and ensure projects are delivered in alignment with Stevens Construction's standards for safety, quality, service, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Develop and oversee business development strategies, objectives, and performance measures for the Orlando market.
- Maintain an active presence in relevant trade associations, professional organizations, and community groups.
- Pursue appropriate board and community leadership opportunities that support the company's strategic objectives.
- Build strong relationships with business leaders, industry partners, subcontractors, clients, and community stakeholders.
- Identify and pursue prospective clients and projects that align with the company's ideal client and project profiles.
- Monitor market activity, development trends, permit applications, property listings, and other sources of potential project opportunities.
- Maintain regular, purposeful outreach to current, former, and prospective clients, referral sources, and industry partners.
- Collaborate with the subcontractor community to identify project opportunities, market trends, and potential staffing resources.
- Represent Stevens Construction professionally at networking events, client meetings, industry functions, and community activities.
Preconstruction
- Support the preparation of qualifications packages, proposals, project schedules, and other materials for requests for qualifications and proposals.
- Participate actively in shortlist interviews, presentations, and project pursuit strategy meetings.
- Participate in preconstruction and design-phase meetings as appropriate.
- Review conceptual budgets and estimates before presentation to clients or project stakeholders.
- Review and assist with the preparation of preconstruction schedules before owner presentations.
- Review and approve proposed subcontractor bid lists before plan distribution.
- Review subcontractor coverage and selection recommendations with project management before subcontract awards.
- Promote effective collaboration and communication among business development, estimating, preconstruction, and operations teams.
Operations
- Provide executive-level guidance and support in resolving complex operational, project, personnel, and client-related issues.
- Identify, hire, and retain the very best people.
- Oversee the performance and responsibilities of the Director of Preconstruction, Project Managers, and Project Superintendents assigned to the Orlando operation.
- Participate in project handoff meetings between preconstruction, estimating, and project management as appropriate.
- Participate in subcontractor pre-award meetings when executive involvement is warranted.
- Participate in internal project startup meetings to ensure roles, responsibilities, project expectations, and communication protocols are clearly established.
- Attend owner-architect-contractor meetings, regulatory inspections, and other key project meetings as appropriate.
- Lead weekly project management meetings and ensure appropriate follow-through on identified action items.
- Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and accountability.
- Monitor project performance, schedules, client satisfaction, safety, quality, staffing, and contractual obligations.
- Identify project and organizational risks and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Promote consistency and accountability in the application of company policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Financial and Contractual Oversight
- Review monthly project fee projections and financial forecasts with Project Managers and the Controller.
- Review, approve, finalize, and execute owner proposals, contracts, and owner change orders within assigned authority.
- Review, approve, and execute subcontracts and subcontract change orders within assigned authority.
- Monitor revenue, backlog, profitability, cash flow, cost performance, and other key financial indicators for the Orlando operation.
- Review financial performance and implement timely corrective measures when results vary from established goals.
- Support the development of annual operating plans, budgets, forecasts, and strategic objectives.
- Ensure operational and financial decisions align with the company's risk management standards and long-term objectives.
Leadership, Training, And Company Culture
- Support the onboarding, training, professional development, and succession planning of Orlando team members.
- Participate in the company's Safety Committee and actively reinforce a strong culture of safety.
- Foster a positive, accountable, collaborative, and performance-driven workplace culture.
- Promote effective communication across departments and company locations.
- Model the company's values and maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- Understands his/her contribution to achieving the five-year strategic plan and the annual plan.
- Understands and operates under the company’s SOP’s at all times.

Skills And Experience
- A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in the commercial construction industry, often with a background in project management or leadership roles.
- Proven success in business development and a strong network within the construction and local business community.
- Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to build and manage high-performance teams.
- Proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and cost analysis.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Experience serving on boards and participating in community organizations.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to address complex issues within the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of construction processes, codes, and regulations.
- A commitment to safety and quality standards in construction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
