Vice President Operations - Commercial Electric - Nashville, TN

Gryphon Oakwood are seeking an experienced Vice President of Operations to run the Commercial Electric construction department for a leading Electrical contractor, to be based out of Nashville, TN. This position will focus on client development, as well as building and maintaining relationships, but will also oversee job estimation, account management, and financial performance. The Vice President will manage Area Managers and Area Supervisors in their area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction and execution of operations for commercial electrical construction projects across the Nashville region and the broader Southeast, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and long-term growth plans.
  • Manage a high-volume portfolio of large-scale, technically complex projects in sectors such as healthcare, education, mission critical, and commercial development throughout Tennessee and neighboring states.
  • Direct a multi-layered operations team—including regional directors, project managers, and field supervisors—fostering a culture of safety, performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive the implementation of standardized processes, technologies, and systems to ensure consistent project execution, cost control, and scalability across regional offices and job sites.
  • Partner with executive and finance teams to oversee operational budgets, job costing, margin improvement, and cash flow; proactively identify and mitigate project and operational risks.
  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with general contractors, developers, key clients, and local government entities, positioning the company as a trusted partner in the Nashville construction market.
  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality control, and environmental responsibility across all operations.
  • Collaborate with estimating, engineering, prefab, procurement, and HR departments to streamline project support and ensure optimal resource utilization.
  • Promote the use of cutting-edge construction technologies, prefabrication strategies, and lean practices to enhance operational performance and maintain competitive advantage in a growing market.
  • Oversee workforce planning and talent development initiatives, including union and non-union labor strategies, apprenticeship programs, and succession planning to ensure future readiness.

Qualifications

  • A minimum 15 years of experience in construction/project management - specifically related to Commercial Electrical construction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of construction operations, project management, safety compliance, labor relations (including union and non-union environments), and field operations.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with experience managing large cross-functional teams across multiple regions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of industry codes, safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA 70E), and best practices in construction safety and quality control.
  • Ability to travel as needed throughout the Nashville area and broader Southeast U.S. region.
