Vice President of Operations - Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Somerset

Job Overview: The Vice President of Operations at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset provides leadership, direction and vision for the organization and is responsible for various administrative aspects of the Hospital and other related entities. The VP Operations ensures compliance with established System objectives while enhancing quality of patient care and delivering fiscally prudent health care services in meeting the local community needs. The VP of Operations is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e., damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.

The VP of Operations is also responsible for the overall operations and direction of Strategic Planning/Business Development, Radiology Services, Physical Therapy Services (Inpatient & Outpatient), Pharmacy, Construction, Plant Operations, Food & Nutrition Services, Patient Transport, Laundry, Security, Emergency Management, Wound Care and Laboratory.

Reports to:

  • The Vice President of Operations reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Health Administration or related field preferred, Bachelors required
  • Ten or more years job related experience including five or more years managerial experience in acute care hospital setting

Essential Functions:

  • Communicates the organization’s plans throughout the organization and community
  • Ensures that patient care/service provided by a department is described in a specific written statement of the goals of patient care and/or scope of services planned
  • Participates at the executive level in defining the mission, vision and values for the organization
  • Collaborates with administrative and medical staff in the development of long range, strategic, operational and space use plans for the organization
  • Ensures that the planning process assesses patient needs and those of the external and internal customers
  • Collaborates and participates with other leaders and representatives of the organization in the decision-making structures and processes
  • Articulates initiatives and objectives at all levels of the organization
  • Works with Executive Management to support the ongoing strategic and operational needs of the organization
  • Promotes the Vision and Mission Statement
  • Participates at Senior Management level in formulating, directing, implementing and evaluating the general operations of the hospital
  • Formulate approach, policies and programs to promote community understanding and identification with the system and confidence in its medical excellence to carry out the objectives of the governing board and Administrators
  • Assess department performance in relation to established goals, and recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvement in services
  • Designs organizational services collaboratively with community leaders and organizations appropriate to the scope and level of care required by the patients served
  • Develops and participates in systematic and effective mechanisms for fostering communication among individuals and groups within the organization and the community
  • Ensures that the services which are designed are responsive to the needs and expectations of patients and/or their families/decision makers
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations
