POSITION SUMMARY

Lead the information security efforts within One Bread Foundation. Responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive information security strategy to protect our digital assets, support compliance efforts, and mitigate risks related to data privacy and cybersecurity. This role is critical to the integrity of our operations and requires a proactive, collaborative leader who can drive security initiatives while balancing the needs of a nonprofit organization. This is a non-compensated position.

Key Responsibilities:

Information Security Strategy:

• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive information security strategy aligned with the organization's mission and business objectives.
• Regularly review and update security protocols, ensuring that they are effective in protecting sensitive data and critical infrastructure.
• Identify emerging threats and trends in cybersecurity and proactively adjust strategies to mitigate risks.
• Evaluate and recommend security technologies, tools and services to strengthen the organization’s overall security posture

Government & Compliance

• Oversee compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices.
• Establish and monitor internal policies and procedures related to data protection, cybersecurity, and incident response.
• Work with external auditors and regulatory bodies to ensure proper oversight and compliance in all security-related matters
• Identify and assess information security risks across the organization and its partners, including third-party vendors, contractors, and service providers.
• Develop and manage risk mitigation strategies, including disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Continuously evaluate security architecture and systems for vulnerabilities, ensuring the implementation of necessary upgrades and/or fixes.
• Lead and build a high-performing team, providing mentorship and ensuring ongoing skill development
• Collaborate with key stakeholders across departments to ensure the integration of security best practices into organizational processes.
• Provide regular security training and awareness programs to staff to foster a culture of security-conscious behavior.
• Develop and implement an incident response plan to handle data breaches, cyberattacks, or any other security incidents swiftly and effectively
• Lead investigations into security incidents, working closely with relevant departments, external experts, and law enforcement as necessary
• Leverage threat intelligence tools and services to monitor emerging threats and take appropriate action to defend against attacks.

Qualifications:

• Passion for the mission of One Bread Foundation, and a desire to make a meaningful impact.
• Donate at least 3 hours per week on tasks and management.
• Proven experience (8+ years) in information security leadership roles, with at least 5 years in a senior management position, preferably within the nonprofit sector or similar organizations.
• Ability to create an Information Security Program from the ground up.
• Strong knowledge of information security frameworks, risk management practices, and compliance requirements (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2).
• Expertise in cybersecurity tools, technologies, and solutions (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, endpoint protection, encryption).
• Experience leading incident response and managing security incidents in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and their application in a nonprofit context.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage stakeholders and communicate complex security concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse team of volunteers.
• Ability to think strategically while being hands-on and detail-oriented in executing security initiatives.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or similar are highly preferred.
• Experience with cloud security and security for remote work environments.
• A background in disaster recovery planning and business continuity management.
• Proven experience in project management or coordination
• Familiarity with nonprofit sector challenges and the ability to tailor solutions to the unique needs of a nonprofit organization.
