Job summary

The Atlantic Council invites applications for Vice President, Atlantic Council and Senior Director, Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, based in Washington, DC. The role leads the Center’s programming, sets strategic direction, and manages a diverse staff of more than 40 resident staff and fellows.

The successful candidate will forge global partnerships, expand funding from governments, foundations, corporations and individuals, and shape policy debates on national security and defense

Qualifications

• Led a major national security organization or comparable policy enterprise.
• Strong global network of security and defense experts.
• Credibility with bipartisan senior policymakers and influence on U.S. or allied security strategy.
• Proven track record of business development with an entrepreneurial approach.
• Demonstrated success securing seven-figure, transformational funding.
• Managed complex budgets and large global, multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentored and developed a large team of staff and fellows.
• Commitment to building high-performing, inclusive teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead vision and strategic framework for the Center’s mission.
• Develop programming to influence policy and manage multiple projects and donors.
• Recruit, manage, and develop staff and integrate advisory partners.
• Expand funding through corporations, governments, and foundations; steward donors.
• Represent the Council externally to government, international actors, media and donors.

Education

Master’s degree or equivalent; Doctorate preferred
