VP of Finance | Venture Capital | New York
Lemon Talent is partnering with an established venture capital firm investing in ambitious early-stage companies across several sectors. We’re looking for a VP of Finance in New York to take increasing ownership of the firm’s finance function.
This role suits someone ready to move beyond a narrowly defined position, broaden their responsibilities and build toward leading a finance function—without having to create one from scratch.
You’ll join a lean, entrepreneurial team where finance is closely connected to the firm’s investment activity and strategic decisions. You’ll work directly with the owners, gain exposure to investors and have visibility across the entire platform.
Why consider it
- A clear path to leading the firm’s finance function.
- Potential participation in carried interest.
- Direct day-to-day access to the managing partners.
- The opportunity to contribute to financial, operational and strategic decisions.
- Exposure to investors, portfolio activity and senior external advisers.
- Established infrastructure, a strong fund administrator and well-developed processes already in place.
- Broad responsibility across fund finance, management-company accounting, transactions and strategic projects.
- The influence and visibility that come with joining a lean team.
The opportunity
The VP of Finance will progressively take ownership of the firm’s finance operations and become a trusted partner to its leadership.
The position combines fund finance, management-company accounting, investor interaction, oversight of external providers and a broad range of commercial and operational projects. Rather than owning one narrow area, you’ll gain exposure across the firm and help shape how the finance function develops.
Responsibilities
- Own finance activity across the firm’s funds, management company and investment vehicles.
- Work closely with the managing partners on financial, operational and strategic matters.
- Oversee the fund administrator and remain accountable for accurate, timely reporting.
- Coordinate capital calls, distributions, cash management and investor allocations.
- Support investor reporting and respond to investor requests.
- Support quarterly reporting and private-investment valuation processes.
- Manage relationships with audit, tax, legal and other external advisers.
- Oversee management-company accounting, expenses and financial reporting.
- Support new investments, financing rounds, secondary transactions and other portfolio activity.Prepare financial analysis, ownership waterfalls and decision-support materials.
- Improve processes as the firm and its investment platform continue to grow.
About you
- Around 8–15 years of finance or accounting experience.
- A background in venture capital, private equity, fund-of-funds, a private-investment family office or another alternatives environment.
- Strong knowledge of private funds, partnership accounting and illiquid investments.
- Experience overseeing fund administrators, auditors, tax advisers and other external providers.
- Comfortable operating in a lean environment without a large team underneath you.
- Confident working directly with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Able to move between detailed execution, problem‑solving and strategic work.
- Proactive, accountable and willing to take ownership of unfamiliar tasks.
- Direct venture‑capital experience is advantageous but not essential.
