We are seeking a Vice President to launch and lead the Residential Energy Storage VPP business. This role will work directly with the CEO to launch and scale our virtual power plant business in the Northeast. This is a founding leadership role with full P&L accountability. You will help build the team, define and execute the go-to-market strategy, secure the capital to deploy systems at scale, and put in place the operational processes needed for a durable, growing business. The ideal candidate has launched or scaled a distributed energy business before and is comfortable moving between strategy, operations and execution.
This is a tremendous role for an experienced renewable energy professional to join a startup within an established firm. This role is not for the faint of heart. Entrepreneurial mindset required. About Us
We are an established solar and energy storage development firm based in New York with a nationwide project footprint. Our existing core business focuses on developing and financing distributed solar and energy storage projects, serving large real estate owners. We are turnkey developer and owner; we originate, develop, design, finance, install, and own and operate.
Our team is launching a new business in the residential energy storage space with the goal to grow and scale a turnkey installation and financing business in the residential energy storage space.
Our team has developed, financed, and installed and financed over 200 MW of distributed energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the business plan, operating budget, and P&L for the VPP business, and report regularly to the CEO and board on performance against milestones.
- Recruit, hire, and lead a high-performing founding team across sales, operations, finance, grid services and operations.
- Define the organizational structure, hiring roadmap, and compensation framework in coordination with leadership.
- Negotiate agreements with battery OEMs and VPP software or DERMS platform providers.
- Secure enrollment in utility demand response and grid services programs, and pursue participation in wholesale markets where aggregation rules allow.
- Build relationships with utilities, grid operators, regulators, and policymakers, and represent the company in regulatory proceedings and program design discussions as needed.
- Oversee marketing, brand positioning, and customer communications for homeowners and partners.
- Design and implement end-to-end processes for customer origination, contracting, installation, interconnection, commissioning, enrollment, dispatch, and ongoing asset management.
- Select and implement core systems, including CRM, asset management, billing, and dispatch or DERMS platforms, with the data infrastructure needed for performance reporting and investor compliance.
- Establish quality control, safety, and installer performance standards.
- Create dispatch and performance protocols that balance grid services revenue, warranty constraints, and customer backup needs.
- Set up financial controls, reporting, and compliance processes to meet lender, investor, and regulatory requirements.
- Define KPIs and operating dashboards covering enrollment growth, fleet availability, program performance, customer satisfaction, and returns.
Qualifications
- 7-10 years of experience in distributed energy, residential solar and storage, utility programs, or energy finance.
- A track record of launching or leading a business line or product, or company, ideally in residential solar, storage, or demand-side energy.
- Deep familiarity with residential project finance, including tax equity, tax credit transfers, third-party ownership structures, and debt facilities.
- A solid understanding of VPP and demand response economics, utility program design, and wholesale market participation for aggregated distributed resources.
- Experience negotiating commercial agreements with installers, OEMs, software vendors, utilities, and capital providers.
- Proven ability to recruit and lead cross-functional teams in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with the judgment to translate analysis into decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage investors, regulators, partners, and homeowners.
- A bachelor's degree is required. An MBA, JD, or technical degree is a plus.
