About The Role

The architecture of U.S. economic security has fundamentally changed as part of a unified government strategy. Export controls, investment screening, sanctions, and technology and telecom restrictions now operate alongside affirmative measures - direct financing, industrial subsidies, and capacity-building programs. The companies, institutions, and investors navigating this environment need more than regulatory compliance. They need trusted advisors who understand how these instruments interact and where they are headed. Beacon Global Strategies helps clients navigate this evolving architecture, and we are seeking a Vice President who can lead this work and position them effectively across both dimensions.

In this role, you will own a substantial client portfolio, serving as the relationship lead for clients across our economic security work. You will connect clients to the right expertise at the right time - drawing on the team, your network, advisors, and regulatory professionals to deliver actionable, high-value insights. You will identify and pursue opportunities to expand the scope and scale of existing engagements while consistently introducing new, sustainable client relationships that contribute to long-term growth.

Join a firm with a strong reputation and platform to help you lead and grow something meaningful, working alongside a team deeply committed to national security and client excellence.

Location: Washington, DC (4 out of 5 days onsite)

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead a portfolio of client accounts as the primary day-to-day relationship owner, setting priorities, anchoring the cadence, and bringing synthesized judgment to every client touchpoint.
  • Advise clients across both dimensions of the U.S. economic security framework (defensive instruments and affirmative tools) with fluency in how these two sides interact in practice.
  • Provide substantive, current guidance on the mechanics and enforcement posture of key regulatory regimes, including EAR/BIS controls, OFAC frameworks, and FCC national security actions, with fluency in adjacent instruments including CFIUS, the outbound investment screening regime, and Entity List and 1260H designation processes.
  • Advise clients on federal financing and industrial strategy programs (DFC, EXIM and CTEP authorities, and relevant DOW programs such as OSC and IBAS), including which instruments fit a given capital need and how to sequence engagement across agencies.
  • Monitor Capitol Hill legislative activity touching the economic security ledger, including export control, sanctions, FCC/telecom, and federal financing authorizations, and brief clients on markup activity, amendment language, and developments that create risk or opportunity.
  • Develop and manage a team across levels, providing clear frameworks, substantive feedback, and leadership to build analytical depth across the practice.
  • Stay attuned to growth opportunities within and adjacent to existing engagements and act on them in coordination with practice leaders.
  • Bring substantive expertise to bear in ways that strengthen the practice's standing with prospective clients - contributing to proposals, representing the firm at senior levels, and identifying opportunities to deepen existing engagements and expand Beacon’s client base.
  • Support or cover other client engagements to provide continuity or depth.
Qualifications
  • 15 or more years of relevant experience spanning export controls, trade policy, federal financing programs, defense industrial base strategy, or a closely related field; candidates with experience across more than one of these areas are strongly preferred.
  • 5 or more years leading, developing, and inspiring teams in a professional services, advisory, or comparable government leadership environment.
  • Advanced degree in international trade law, policy, or compliance; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Deep, current knowledge of U.S. economic security policy across both its protective and affirmative dimensions, with demonstrated fluency regulatory regimes and federal financing & industrial strategy tools.
  • An established network within the export controls, defense, federal financing, and national security communities, including familiarity with relevant agencies such as BIS, FCC, DDTC, OFAC, DFC, EXIM, and DOW.
  • Proven ability to build consensus across a matrixed organization, balancing multiple senior stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in a senior advisory, consulting, government, or in-house regulatory or compliance leadership role.
  • Proven ability to originate and manage a significant client portfolio, with experience building and sustaining long-term client relationships grounded in trust and results.
  • Strong communication and executive presence, with the ability to engage C-suite clients and senior government officials with clarity and credibility.
Ideal Background

Candidates who will thrive in this role may come from backgrounds such as:

  • Senior positions in government agencies focused on economic security, including Commerce/BIS, Treasury/OFAC, the FCC, USTR.
  • Senior congressional staff with a portfolio spanning export controls, sanctions, federal financing, or defense industrial base policy.
  • Senior advisory, consulting, or think tank roles focused on economic security, trade policy, or the intersection of national security and commercial regulation.
  • Senior in-house regulatory, compliance, or government affairs roles at companies navigating the U.S. economic security framework.
  • Candidates with an entrepreneurial orientation and private sector experience are strongly preferred.
Total Rewards

We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, paid parental leave and flexible paid time-off (PTO), and a 401(k) plan for all benefit-eligible employees.
