About this role

SpiderRock Advisors, LLC ("SRA"), a wholly owned subsidiary of BlackRock, headquartered in Chicago, IL, is a rapidly growing provider of derivatives solutions to the wealth management and institutional segments of the global asset management industry. SRA specializes in designing and implementing customized derivative solutions and overlay strategies for institutions, wealth managers, and their clients.

SRA is seeking an energetic and talented Portfolio Manager & Derivatives Trader responsible for understanding multiple asset classes (e.g., Equities, Futures, FX, Fixed Income) and supporting high-performance quantitative execution in both internal and client-facing roles. This role involves portfolio design, risk management, data analytics, quantitative analysis, research, and automated options trading.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, develop, and improve trading and portfolio management infrastructure and proprietary software.
  • Conduct quantitative research and statistical analysis to enhance portfolio management and performance.
  • Support research on using options to improve portfolio outcomes, reshape return distributions, facilitate transitions, and optimize after-tax results.
  • Manage and communicate strategies to institutional and retail clients for their mandates.
  • Develop, debug, and test Python software.
  • Continuously improve strategies and testing environments based on market conditions.
  • Use creativity and technical skills to analyze historical data objectively.
  • Apply economic and financial theories to solve complex business problems.
  • Identify and visualize patterns and trends in data.
  • Present investment research and findings to SRA's Investment Committee.
  • Analyze structured finance products, company financials, and market data.
  • Document workflows, processes, and products.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations for internal and external audiences, including charts and graphs.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 5+ years in a similar role.
  • At least 3 years of Python programming experience; knowledge of R is a plus.
  • Familiarity with order management, trading systems, and troubleshooting daily issues.
  • Experience manipulating large datasets with SQL or similar tools.
  • Experience with algorithmic trading, market microstructure, FIX protocol, and clearing operations.
  • Experience with Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA) research is a plus.
  • Knowledge of equity options is required; familiarity with multiple asset classes is a plus.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence tools like AWS QuickSight.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and professionalism.

For Chicago, IL, the salary range is USD $155,000 - $250,000, plus discretionary bonuses and benefits including healthcare, leave, and retirement plans. BlackRock offers a hybrid work model requiring at least 4 days/week in the office, with flexibility for 1 day remote.
