The VP, AI/ML Engineering is a strategic leadership role responsible for defining, building, and delivering an AI strategy and roadmap that aligns with UnitedHealth Group business priorities. You will collaborate with CIOs and Executive Business sponsors to influence an AI-driven agenda, including AI product Innovation and use cases targeting the highest benefit value.



This role requires a visionary leader who can drive AI innovation and leverage the latest industry trends and technologies to deliver high-impact solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:





  • Strategic Leadership and Engineering Accountability: Define, build, and deliver a comprehensive AI strategy and roadmap in alignment with UnitedHealth Group's business goals, ensuring engineering excellence and accountability

  • Collaboration: Partner with CIOs and Executive Business sponsors to influence and drive an AI-driven agenda, focusing on AI product innovation and high-value use cases

  • Innovation: Continually identify proof of concepts and new innovations, leveraging the latest industry AI/ML trends and technologies

  • Research and Development: Lead AI research and development efforts to ensure the adoption of emerging AI technologies and trends, including machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and robotics

  • Partnership: Establish and maintain partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and universities to access cutting-edge research, talent, and technology

  • Team Leadership: Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team of AI/ML engineers, software engineers, and researchers, fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence

Required Qualifications:





  • Proven experience in AI/ML leadership roles, with a track record of delivering successful AI strategies and solutions

  • Experience in the healthcare industry or a similarly regulated environment

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate complex AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences (in writing & verbally)

  • Track record of influencing and driving an AI agenda at the executive level

  • Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, trends, and best practices

  • Experience leading research and development efforts in AI/ML, including ML, NLP, and/or robotics

  • Excellent team leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and grow a high-performing team

  • Product orientation

  • Prior experience managing budgets & project/program plans

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, or a related field

  • Established network and experience partnering with academic institutions and research organizations

The salary range for this role is $191,800 to $364,800 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
