Job summary

Sage Veterinary Imaging is seeking a Veterinary Technician Assistant to support veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and the Imaging Director in day-to-day care and diagnostic imaging procedures.

You’ll gain exposure to MRI, CT, ultrasound, radiography, nuclear medicine, and neuro-imaging while developing practical patient-care and veterinary assisting skills in a specialty imaging setting.

The Veterinary Technician Assistant (TA) is a dependable, trained member of the clinical team who provides hands‑on support to veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and the Imaging Director during day-to-day patient care and diagnostic imaging procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in veterinary medicine while gaining experience in a specialty environment focused on advanced diagnostic imaging.

You’ll work alongside an experienced clinical team and gain exposure to MRI, CT, ultrasound, radiography, nuclear medicine, and neuro-imaging while developing practical patient-care and veterinary assisting skills.

What You'll Do
Patient Care & Clinical Support
  • Admit and discharge patients.
  • Obtain and record patient weights, vital signs, and other basic patient information.
  • Assist veterinarians with physical examinations.
  • Assist veterinary technicians with procedures and patient care.
  • Safely and compassionately restrain patients using appropriate low‑stress handling techniques.
  • Assist with patient positioning and preparation for procedures.
  • Observe patients and promptly communicate concerns or changes to the veterinary technician or veterinarian.
  • Support patient recovery and monitoring as directed by the clinical team.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation within the scope of the role.
Diagnostic Imaging Support
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Set up the ultrasound machine and procedure area.
  • Prepare patients and equipment for ultrasound procedures.
  • Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians during ultrasound and other imaging procedures.
  • Help prepare rooms, equipment, and supplies for MRI, CT, radiography, nuclear medicine, and other imaging procedures.
  • Assist with safe patient movement and positioning.
  • Clean and reset imaging and procedure areas between patients.
  • Follow established patient safety, infection‑control, MRI, radiation, and anesthesia protocols applicable to the role.
Laboratory Support
  • Perform basic laboratory procedures as trained and directed.
  • Properly collect, label, prepare, and organize laboratory samples.
  • Prepare laboratory samples for shipment to outside laboratories.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and a clean, organized laboratory workspace.
  • Accurately document laboratory‑related information as required.
Hospital & Equipment Support

Maintaining a clean, prepared, and organized clinical environment is an essential part of this position.

The Technician Assistant will:

  • Clean and sanitize cages, treatment areas, procedure areas, and clinical equipment.
  • Clean and prepare surgical and procedural equipment as directed.
  • Maintain clean and orderly patient‑care spaces.
  • Stock and organize clinical and imaging supplies.
  • Help ensure treatment and imaging areas are prepared for upcoming patients.
  • Assist with laundry and routine hospital cleaning.
  • Complete assigned daily opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Identify supplies, equipment, or areas requiring attention and communicate needs to the appropriate team member.
  • Assist other members of the clinical team when needed.
  • Perform other clinical and operational duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Preferred
  • Previous experience working in veterinary medicine, animal care, or a clinical environment.
  • Previous Veterinary Assistant or Technician Assistant experience.
  • Experience obtaining patient vital signs and assisting with basic laboratory procedures.
  • Experience with veterinary patient restraint and low‑stress handling.
  • Familiarity with EzyVet or another veterinary practice management system.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent education or training.

Previous advanced diagnostic imaging experience is not required. Training will be provided based on experience, competency, and the responsibilities of the position.
