Job description

Veterinary Tech - Veterinary Clinical Team Animal Research

Greenfield, IN

We have a great opportunity for a Veterinary Technician at our Greenfield, Indiana lab. The ideal candidate is a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Nurse, with RVT certification preferred but not required. Responsibilities include performing and documenting basic veterinary laboratory procedures in compliance with SOPs, GLPs, protocols, and regulatory guidelines. The role emphasizes monitoring animal health and welfare in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act and maintaining a Culture of Care, prioritizing animal well-being at all times.

  1. Assist with daily rounds and monitoring of animals in vivarium; may prepare animal health reports.
  2. Perform physical examinations and treatments as deemed necessary by clinical veterinarians.
  3. Provide environmental and social enrichment for laboratory animals.
  4. Maintain and monitor reports and records, including animal health records, activity reports, and enrichment logs.
  5. Conduct general physical exams, laboratory testing, and dental cleanings across multiple species.
  6. Perform aseptic surgical preparations and anesthesia on various species.
  7. Execute basic dosing, bleeding techniques, and restraint procedures.
  8. Ensure studies are conducted according to protocols, SOPs, and government regulations.
  9. Assist or perform surgical procedures.
  10. Manage time and resources effectively, including equipment, rooms, feed, and supplies.
  11. Apply good research practice (GRP) principles.
  12. Report animal care concerns and participate in resolutions and corrective actions.
  13. Review study data with minimal QC findings and understand QA audit processes.
  14. Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  15. Occasional weekend coverage required, including working every third weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Education, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology or a Bachelor's in Animal Science, Biology, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Highly preferred but not required: 2+ years of experience with small and large animals.
  • Preferred but not required: 2+ years assisting or performing small and large animal examinations.
