Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health's Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center (DVSC) in Frisco, TX seeks an Advanced Surgery/Critical Care Veterinary Technician. This full-time role involves anesthesia oversight, perioperative care, and high standards of surgical hygiene, with occasional on-call duties.

You will work closely with veterinarians in a top-tier referral center focused on orthopedic, soft tissue, minimally invasive, and neurosurgery for dogs and cats, delivering exceptional patient care and client

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and monitor patients during surgical procedures, including pre- and post-op care and anesthesia recovery.
  • Assist with outpatient appointments for surgeons, including consultations and rechecks.
  • Perform IV, IM and SubQ injections, catheter placements, and advanced technician skills (arterial catheter placement, epidural administration, splint placements).
  • Perform radiographs and other advanced imaging.
  • Assist with all types of surgery, anesthesia, and related procedures.
  • Support surgery team responsibilities: set up/turn over ORs, prep exam rooms and instruments, daily safety and cleaning duties.
  • Communicate with clients, including estimates and payments.
  • Interface with other hospital departments as needed.

Compensation:
  • $21 - $25/hr. based on experience and credentials

Schedule:
  • Full Time
    • 4x10 hour shifts per week
    • Monday - Thursday

Job Description:

Our Surgery/Critical Care Technicians are vital members of our veterinary team, applying their expertise with a high degree of autonomy. They skillfully calculate and administer induction medications, monitor anesthesia for patient safety, and provide attentive postoperative care. Additionally, they ensure the highest standards of surgical hygiene by cleaning, sterilizing, and organizing instruments. Through collaboration with veterinarians and ongoing training, they continually expand their skills in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Administers medication and manages/monitors patients during surgical procedures—including pre and post op care and anesthesia recovery.
  • Facilitates patient care of outpatient appointments for surgeons—consults and rechecks.
  • Performs IV, IM and SubQ injections, IV catheter placements and advanced veterinary technician skills (arterial catheter placement, epidural administration, splint placements).
  • Performs radiographs and other advanced imaging.
  • Assists with all types of surgery, anesthesia, and other procedures as needed.
  • Participate in surgery team responsibilities that facilitate efficient patient care: setting up and turning over Operating Rooms, preparing exam rooms and instruments, completing daily safety and cleaning duties.
  • Communicates with clients, including financial estimates and collecting payment.
  • Interfaces with and assists other departments within the hospital as needed.
  • Other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
  • You are a Licensed Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Technician dedicated to outstanding client service and excellent patient care.

  • You possess clinical skills and experience that include (but are not limited to):
    • Safe patient restraint
    • Excellent client service
    • Phlebotomy and catheter placement
    • Knowledge of radiology safety and proper technique
    • Proficient in post-op monitoring and care of surgical patients
    • Solid foundation of knowledge of common veterinary medications
    • Individualized, patient-focused nursing
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required; multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
