A BluePearl Surgery Technician is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Preferably, candidates will have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on-call schedule is required once training has been completed.
As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, your responsibilities include:
- Providing nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards and core values.
- Utilizing skills to place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
- Performing physical exams, including counting heart and pulse rates, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, and respiratory effort.
- Monitoring vital parameters and alerting the veterinarian to abnormalities.
- Setting up and administering intravenous fluids, including subcutaneous fluids.
- Operating all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshooting errors.
- Disconnecting and connecting patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
- Monitoring patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload.
