Job summary

Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC) is seeking a Surgical Veterinary Technician to join its fast-paced surgical team. You will work alongside Board-Certified Surgeons, surgical residents, and interns to support soft tissue, orthopedic, laparoscopic, and neurosurgical procedures and provide anesthesia services.

The role emphasizes collaboration, client communication, and maintaining sterile technique.

Qualifications

  • LVT/CVT/RVT; VTS preferred.
  • Strong anesthesia and surgical experience.
  • Experienced Veterinary Assistants may be considered.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Team-oriented approach and strong leadership skills.
  • Passion for learning and advancing surgical care.

Responsibilities

  • Support soft tissue, orthopedic, laparoscopic, and neurosurgical procedures
  • Perform anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Prepare patients and maintain sterile technique in the OR
  • Provide post-operative care, treatments, and documentation
  • Collaborate with surgeons, residents, interns, and the surgical team
  • Communicate compassionately with clients and advocate for patients
  • Support department flow, scheduling, equipment, and surgical supplies

Schedule & Compensation
  • Full-time: Wednesday–Saturday, 9:00 AM–7:30 PM or similar, if changed due to hospital needs
  • Schedule will be discussed during interview
  • Some holidays required
  • $25–$38/hour, based on experience and licensure
  • Higher range available for VTS
  • Up to $5,000 sign-on bonus based on experience and credentials
