Job summary

VCA California Veterinary Specialist in Ontario is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician to join the Surgery Department. This 4x10-hour full-time role supports complex anesthetic cases in a 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital with two boarded surgeons.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor anesthesia including blood pressure, CO2, SpO2 and ventilation.
  • Prepare surgical areas and assist in soft tissue and orthopedic procedures.
  • Draw blood, place IV catheters and manage CRIs.
  • Support anesthesia providers and veterinarians in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

VCA California Veterinary Specialist in Ontario is looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician to join our expanding Surgery Department. We currently have 2 Boarded Surgeons for our busy 24-hour Emergency and Specialty Hospital.

Location: 2409 S Vineyard Ave Ste O, Ontario, CA 91761

Salary: $28 - $32/ hour – Salary is higher for VTS
Compensation is based on education, experience, skill set, and other relevant credentials.

Schedule: Full-Time, 4x10-hour alternative work week

Tuesday-Friday 9 am-7:30 pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a highly skilled surgery technician who is comfortable with critical anesthetic cases, including septic abdomens, thoracotomies, etc. This position is for someone who has already worked in a specialty surgery department or in a critical care environment and has managed difficult anesthetic cases. The schedule will be 4-days/10-hour work week. No weekends will be required. This position is not meant for new RVTs and will require experience.

Essential Job Functions

Anesthesiology monitoring including blood pressure, CO2, SpO2, invasive blood pressure monitoring, ventilator setup and management. Calculating and administering multiple CRIs. Performing hands-free radiographs. Surgical preparation for soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. Drawing blood, placing IV catheters, sedation, intubation. Other duties as assigned by Supervisors, Management team and/or Doctors

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Anesthetic skills for advanced procedures such as thoracotomies, septic abdomens, etc. Knowledge of how to use and set up a ventilator. Basic anesthetic physiology. Surgical preparation for both soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. Basic computer skills. Works well under pressure. Able to multitask. Able to stand on feet much of the day. Able to lift up to 40 lbs.

Maintain positive, upbeat attitude with doctors and team members. Team player; maintains confidentiality, i.e., patient and staff member information. Able to communicate in a clear, courteous and professional manner with doctors, staff members and clients in a courteous and professional manner. Willingness and ability to learn new skills. Education and Experience:

High school graduate or equivalent; college degree desirable. Certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) required.
