Qualifications

Department: Veterinary Technicians

Location: Marietta, Georgia

At Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency, we are proud to deliver top-tier veterinary care with a focus on specialty services and critical care. Our Surgery Department provides advanced surgical interventions, from routine soft tissue procedures to complex orthopedic and neurologic surgeries, performed by a team of highly experienced, board-certified veterinary surgeons.

Located in Marietta, GA, our hospital features state-of-the-art surgical suites, advanced anesthesia monitoring equipment, and cutting-edge diagnostic tools. We are seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or a highly skilled Veterinary Assistant with a strong background in surgery and anesthesia to join our growing surgical team.

This is a unique opportunity to play an integral role in providing lifesaving and life-enhancing surgical care to pets, working alongside some of the best minds in veterinary surgery.

Key Responsibilities

As a Surgery Technician or Advanced Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Surgical Preparation & Support: Assist in prepping patients for surgery, including shaving, scrubbing, and sterile draping. Maintain aseptic technique during procedures. Set up and clean surgical suites and equipment, ensuring sterilization and compliance.
  • Anesthesia & Monitoring: Induce, monitor, and recover patients under anesthesia, observing vital signs and patient comfort. Use anesthesia machines, ventilators, and monitoring equipment proficiently. Administer medications and manage intraoperative fluids and pain management under DVM guidance.
  • Post-Operative Care: Monitor recovery, ensuring comfort and safety. Administer medications, change bandages, and monitor incisions.
  • Diagnostic & Technical Assistance: Support diagnostics like radiographs, CT scans, bloodwork, and urinalysis. Assist with orthopedic and neurologic surgeries.
  • Client Communication & Education: Explain procedures, home care, and recovery to clients empathetically and clearly.
  • Inventory & Equipment Management: Manage surgical supplies, sterilization, and report equipment issues.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and ICU staff. Mentor junior team members.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Education & Certification:

  • Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technician program preferred.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in Georgia is strongly preferred. Veterinary Assistants with relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience:

  • 2+ years in veterinary surgery, anesthesia, or emergency/critical care preferred.
  • Experience with orthopedic, neurologic, or minimally invasive surgeries is highly desirable.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, anesthetic protocols.
  • Skilled in IV catheter placement, fluids, record-keeping, and imaging assistance.
  • Familiar with emergency protocols and intraoperative CPR.

Compassionate Care & Communication:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Calm, patient, and compassionate, even under stress.

Detail-Oriented & Reliable:

  • High attention to detail and dependability.
  • Adaptability and professionalism in fast-paced situations.
