Job summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Technician (Small/Large Animal Versa) to support multiple specialty departments. You will work under veterinarians, perform medical calculations, administer medications, collect lab samples, induce and monitor anesthesia, and assist with critical patient care.

• AAS in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited program.
• Must become an RVT in Indiana within 12 months.

• Ability to explain and demonstrate veterinary medical concepts.

Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is hiring for our Small/Large Animal Versa team. As a technician, you will have the opportunity to work with all of Purdue’s specialty departments in both the small animal and large animal hospitals, including Anesthesia and Surgery, Primary Care, Emergency/Critical Care, Large Animal Surgery and ICU, and Small Animal Internal Medicine. Versa Veterinary Technicians are assigned to the area in the hospital of greatest need and, through this opportunity, will utilize all of their skills and knowledge.

As a Small/Large Animal Versa Technician at Purdue, you’ll be a trusted member of our clinical team, working alongside and under the supervision of veterinarians to deliver exceptional care. You’ll sharpen your skills by performing medical calculations, administering medications, collecting laboratory samples, inducing and monitoring anesthesia, recognizing emergencies and providing life-saving treatment, evaluating and monitoring patients, and providing surgical nursing care. You’ll also inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals through hands-on clinical instruction for veterinary and veterinary nursing students, demonstrating proper use of basic equipment and instruments, performing and teaching basic medical procedures, and assisting Senior Technicians with critical patient monitoring. Your insights will matter, too: you’ll provide feedback to Senior Technicians and Clinicians on students’ behavior and knowledge in the hospital environment to support student grading. What We’re Looking For:

Qualified candidates will need:

• AAS in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program

Skills Needed:

• Must become an RVT in Indiana within 12 months of hire.
• Able to listen to and follow both verbal and written directions.
• Must possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English.
• Must possess a knowledge level enough to explain and demonstrate both routine and advanced veterinary medical concepts and procedures.
